The California Energy Commission has approved about $17m for the development of clean energy transportation across the state.
This funding is being made under the commission's Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program, created by Assembly Bill 118.
Of all the eight recipients, Eslinger Biodiesel will be the highest beneficiary of them with a funding of about $6m.
Energy Commission chair Robert B. Weisenmiller said that the funding will support the expansion of alternative fuels and zero-emission vehicles in California.
"Additionally, the funded projects will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants to protect our environment and improve the health of all Californians," added Weisenmiller.
These awards will also support the rapid commercialization of zero-emission vehicles in California, with a 2025 target of having 1.5 million zero emission vehicles on the state's roads.
The order also requires the installation of sufficient infrastructure to support 1 million zero emission vehicles in California by 2020.
