Blog Big or Go Home! | Social Media Today

blog success

If you own a small business with products that rely heavily on e-commerce, maintaining a website and social media presence is more than a necessity.

As such, procuring web space for a blog is essential in order to make surfers aware of your product or service while driving traffic to your company?s website.

However, simply establishing a blog and updating it with content is not enough.

Massive competition for clicks and views?user attention?is ubiquitous online, so it is wise to employ a variety of tactics and strategies to make a blog stand out and ultimately successful.

A successful blog requires more than a few posts advertising your product or service.

The blogging game involves good branding, smart marketing, great design, and content that is not corny, clich?, or overzealous.

Successful blogs make use of high quality images and pictures, a format or design that doesn?t simply look like a stock template from many of the free blog services, grammatically correct content, a few (rather than many) URL links to a product or service or other posts in the blog.

Repeating a key word three or four times in a 500-word post will help make specific blog posts appear in search results, but blog owners should follow the rules and avoid misleading or deceptive marketing techniques to get attention.

Users will recognize this and often leave your blog?and business?in the dark.

Anything you can do to make the user stay on your blog or visit your website more quickly ? the better. Informative content, interactive design, and eye-catching imagery are all things successful blogs strive for.

Advertising your blog offline also helps (i.e with a business card or flyer), but it works just as well when you include a link in an e-mail signature, on other message boards or blog comment sections, and on e-classifieds.

Including information about your blog on a social media site such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, or Reddit can also help increase traffic to your own personalized corner of the web.

Maintaining updated content is tremendously important.

While some blogs update daily, other sites recommend updating 3-4 times daily for a truly successful blog. However, it is important to avoid repetitive content, fluff content, and all spelling and grammatical errors.

Clarity, sharpness, creative, and original content will be rewarded with more traffic. Maintaining a consistent effort in updating your blog will eventually land you a valuable product online filled with strong and original content people will actually want to read.

This ultimately means more people are likely to get to know what you?re offering and then go to your website to pay money for it.

As you become more experienced in the world of blogging, more advanced techniques can be utilized to sustain and increase traffic and popularity.

Some websites offer free tests and evaluation of how well a blog is employing a variety of these strategies, so it is often useful to find a free or inexpensive service that will offer a diagnostic test of a blog or website.

Beyond this, maintaining updates and a distinct character will significantly increase the success of a blog, no matter the topic or subject matter. If you build it (well), they will come!

Oldest Living Identical Twins, Charlotte Eisgrou and Ann Primack, Turn 103 (PHOTO)

On Monday, the world's oldest living identical twins celebrated their 103 birthday!

Charlotte Eisgrou and Ann Primack of South Florida and Daytona Beach, Fla. are still in the best of health, despite their age. Neither uses a hearing aide or reading glasses, reported the Daily Mail.

"I feel wonderful. I have all my faculties," Eisgrou told the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Although the pair was unable to spend their birthday together since they are both recovering from recent falls, they still consider each other best friends.

Story continues after photo

oldest living twins

The twins were born two months premature in Chicago in 1909. They weighed a combined 7 lbs. Since they were born before incubators were invented, they wrapped in blankets and put in the door of a stove to keep warm, reported the Daily Mail.

From then on they remained inseparable.

Eisgrou moved to Florida in 1949, and Primack followed her in 1971. There, they enjoyed the majority of their lives, outlived their husbands, and had one son each.

They're both astonished by their record-breaking age.

"I can't believe it, that I've reached that age. The good thing is our minds are sharp. That's the only good thing," Primack told ABC.

Amazingly, the twins continue to live almost completely independently.

Eisgrou started driving at age 78, and didn't stop until four years ago, when her now 71-year-old son told her "I shouldn't get a new car with all the hijackings," reported the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

They both use a cane to walk, but are healthy and independent. Primack even survived ovarian cancer years ago.

Their longevity may in part be due to their sense of humor. They recalled to the Daytona Journal that they often used to switch husbands when they visited each other.

"I used to visit Daytona and we'd switch husbands and walk in the temple," Primack said, "And they'd say to me, 'Charlotte, you look so good.'"

"Nobody ever knew the difference. And by the time they found out, they were hysterical," Eisgrou told ABC. "We had so much fun."

"They are very funny," Jerry Primack, Ann's son, added. "They bicker constantly."

Although the sisters have always been close, they cannot agree on what has led them to live such a long life.

According to the Daily Mail, Primack credits genes and "never being fat" while her twin Eisgrou says it's because she drank lots of milk.

"Everybody asks me that. I don't know what it was," Primack told ABC. "I didn't watch my food when I was young. I smoked. We all smoked."

Eisgrou added: "I don't know the secret to a long life. And I wouldn't tell you if I knew it."

"We love each other and we always will," Primack told ABC.

Eisgrou and Primack are the second oldest twins in the world, born 39 days after non-identical twins Edith Ritchie and Evelyn Middleton from Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Beavers stunned as Texas rallies to win Alamo Bowl 31-27

Updated yesterday at 10:07 PM

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- David Ash threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes, the last a 36-yard strike to Marquise Goodwin with 2:24 left, to give Texas a 31-27 comeback victory over No. 15 Oregon State in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday night.

Complete Beavers coverage

The Longhorns (9-4) never led before Goodwin scored his second touchdown on a deep post pattern, just a play after Texas converted a fourth-and-1 play to keep its chances alive.

Storm Woods ran for 118 yards and scored two touchdowns for Oregon State (9-4). The Beavers left stunned after looking as though they would wrap up their first 10-win season since 2006.

The victory was a dose of much-needed good news for Texas after coming into the game under a cloud of questions following the suspensions of two players.

Obama says failure to reach fiscal deal would hurt markets

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Financial markets would be affected adversely if U.S. lawmakers fail to agree on a "fiscal cliff" deal before Tuesday, President Barack Obama said in an interview broadcast on Sunday, while urging Congress to act quickly to extend tax cuts for middle-class Americans.

Lawmakers are seeking a last-minute deal that would set aside $600 billion in tax increases and across-the-board government spending cuts that are set to start within days. If Congress does not make that happen, the first bill brought up in the new year would be to reduce taxes for middle-income families, Obama told NBC's "Meet the Press."

"Now I think that over the next 48 hours, my hope is that people recognize that, regardless of partisan differences, our top priority has to be to make sure that taxes on middle-class families do not go up. That would hurt our economy badly," Obama said in the interview taped on Saturday.

"We can get that done. Democrats and Republicans both say they don't want taxes to go up on middle-class families. That's something we all agree on. If we can get that done, that takes a big bite out of the 'fiscal cliff.' It avoids the worst outcomes," Obama added.

Low income tax rates first put in place under Republican former President George W. Bush are due to expire at the end of the day on Monday - the last day of 2012.

Obama said that failing to reach a deal would have a negative impact on financial markets.

"If people start seeing that on January 1st this problem still hasn't been solved, that we haven't seen the kind of deficit reduction that we could have had had the Republicans been willing to take the deal that I gave them ... then obviously that's going to have an adverse reaction in the markets," he said.

RARE SENATE SESSION ON SUNDAY

Obama met with congressional leaders at the White House on Friday and declared himself cautiously optimistic about the chances of an agreement, but he noted in the interview that nothing had materialized since then.

"I was modestly optimistic yesterday, but we don't yet see an agreement. And now the pressure's on Congress to produce," he said.

The Senate is scheduled to hold a rare Sunday session beginning at 1 p.m. EST (1800 GMT), but it was not clear whether the chamber would have fiscal-cliff legislation to act upon.

Obama sketched out what he believed to be the most likely scenarios the end the back-and-forth between both sides. Either the congressional leaders would come up with a deal, or Democrats in the Senate would bring a bill to the floor seeking an up-or-down vote to extend tax cuts for middle income earners.

"And if all else fails, if Republicans do in fact decide to block it, so that taxes on middle class families do in fact go up on January 1st, then we'll come back with a new Congress on January 4th and the first bill that will be introduced on the floor will be to cut taxes on middle class families," he said.

Obama chided Republicans for resisting his call for tax rates to go up for the top two percent of U.S. earners despite what he viewed as significant compromises on his part to cut spending and reform expensive social programs for the poor and elderly.

"They say that their biggest priority is making sure that we deal with the deficit in a serious way, but the way they're behaving is that their only priority is making sure that tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans are protected. That seems to be their only overriding, unifying theme," Obama said.

"The offers that I've made to them have been so fair that a lot of Democrats get mad at me. I mean I offered to make some significant changes to our entitlement programs in order to reduce the deficit," he said.

Folks, I've been separated for nearly two months and I'm now working on self-improvement.

One area I identified that I need to work on is managing my anger.

My husband would bring out the monster in me. No, I would never throw things or hurt anyone in the process, but I'd drop a few F-bombs here and there and I'd certainly get LOUD.

Thing is, I generally don't have a temper. Most of my friends, even childhood friends, would be surprised if they were told that I have a temper. But I do.

People who know me too well and know how to push my buttons unleash that ugly side of me. My dad, my mom sometimes, and now my husband. I thought my temper problems were done with. That I was just an angry teen. That I'd overcome it. Apparently not.

Thing is, I'd been to individual counseling for an extended period of time before I got married. So I'm not sure that that's the route to go.

Does anyone recommend any self-help books or techniques to calm me down when I sense getting frustrated to the point of losing my cool?

Thanks in advance<3

Keep a record. Ask yourself at the end of each day "Did I remain centered today?" If you can answer 100% yes, mark that day a success. See for how many days you can maintain the streak, then aim to make the next streak longer.

Coffee Amore, thanks for the link.

I read it, but I also dont understand what the alternative is if you're the one being the food police for example.

My husband's weight got out of control and he continued making really unhealthy food choices even though we had discussed the need for both of us to eat better. I noticed when I stopped commenting, I got resentful as I watched him eat burgers/icecream/ oreos, because he didn't care. What's a better way of relaying frustrations, especially when it seems the other person isn't listening?

We both did this to each other, him with how I spent my money, and me, with how he ate/spent his time.

I don't have a lot of experience in this area to be honest. My husband likes to watch what he eats and he's about 10 pounds more than he was in college. I have a sibling though who could lose a lot of weight. The spouse of that sibling has tried everything from talking to getting their kids to talk about weight loss, but so far nothing has happened. The weight just seems to keep piling. You know that old saying "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink" ? Same thing applies. You can stock the house with healthy foods, model a healthy lifestyle, talk about clean eating and exercising until you're blue in the face, but you can't ever make someone who does not want to change, change. My sibling with the weight problem says it's not a bother and they're ok with it. I don't think so. I think it's just a facade, but there's nothing more any of us can do other than hope there's an epiphany or crisis (nothing too serious) that will snap them out of it.

The other thing you could do, if willing, is to draw a hard boundary. "I love you but your weight is making me lose attraction for you. If this continues..I will (insert consequence that you intend to follow through on, not just threaten)." There have been countless threads in the General Forum as well as the Men's Forum and Sex Forum on that topic alone so do a search.
