The pap test can now be used to detect ovarian and endometrial cancers. This is the main finding of an American research published in Science Magazine. To their surprise, experts found that cervical fluid, obtained during a Pap smear, may contain not only cells from cervical cancer, but also from ovarian or endometrial ones. Even being small this study, conducted on a sample of about 40 uterine cancers, reveals to be a significant step toward a broadly applicable methodology for early detection of gynecological malignancies, since ovarian cancers are usually found when they are already incurable. What is more, the test didn?t cause any false alarms.
